South then West!

DJ is hunkered down for the night at a campsite in the Pocono mountains. Tomorrow she will begin the long journey West. DJ wanted me to talk to you about prejudice. You see she has encountered it all across the country.(Yes prejudice still does exist in this day and age for those of you living in denial or a plastic bubble.) What are we teaching our children, when will the ignorance stop? DJ isn't just riding for African Americans or women she is riding for all Americans regardless of color or creed. Heart disease and cancer don't discriminate they affect people of all races. So lets put aside or differences and work together to help eliminate these horrible diseases in our life time. Until next time..... God Bless. Updated by DJ's husband Mark

Day 69 - 45 States!!!

Wednesday was not just rain - add fog & flooded roads - I rode in it for 11 hours!! There was no campsite that would let me keep Big B. (CLOSE - in other words no bikes in the campsites) There was some kind of convention in Boston - so all rooms within a 100 mile radius was over $140.00 & the folks were very mean to me - it was as if they were happy I wasn't staying there. With no place to camp & & the rooms ( fa - get - about it ) - I had to keep moving north into Maine. I finally found a place after Midnight - but is was still $80.00 - discounted from $95.00. Sickening!!!

I am in Vermont the 45th STATE!!! I will be heading west over the next 2 weeks!

A Quiet Moment ...

I consider DJ to be my sister. I pray for her safety and her spirit. She sent me this photo today. This image shows DJ with a peace about her. Even though this ride is hard, she has been able to keep her wits. I pray this photo gives you the same sense of peace & relief that I feel.

Stay strong my sister (posted by teej)

Don't cremp my style.......................

Monday ended on quite the strange note - AGAIN!! I was going to meet with a long time friend - Dr. G. my dentist & friend in NJ for about 17 years - when Big Bertha died on me again - this time going up a hill. I drove onto the shoulder & backed the bike down the hill to safety. I tried to start her & nothing. I switched the fuel to reserve & she fired right up. I knew something was wrong - I couldn't be out of gas at 55 miles. I know Valks are pretty tough on gas..........but not that BAD!!

I called the shop that had repaired Big B. on Saturday - they got in early on Tuesday to get the problem solved - and they did. The fuel line had gotten cremped when the gas tank was put back on & was cutting off the fuel to the motor.

I am now in the Big Apple...........Big Bertha & I spent most of the afternoon dodging, pot holes, buses, yellow cabs & trying to find a parking garage that will take motorcycles!

Before I sign off - I have been touched by some wonderful angels - Joan & Rich Gargiulo of New Provendence, NJ! They took me in - fed me for several days & as I was leaving this morning they handed me a unexpected Posey Foundation donation to help get me though this journey!
Thank you......................

Looks like rain is in our path - heading up into the New England States......OH Well - we have been wet before.............

Until next time - God Bless, DJ & Big Bertha

New Road House........

Had to buy a new tent today - the other one couldn't take it! Of course it was not purchased without complications.............the Walmart I went to looked like a bomb had hit it & the K-Mart wasn't much better + the tents they had were much to large!! I found what I was looking for in Ray's Sports Shop. I set the tent up in my friends garage - good thing because as I send you this Blog, the sky has opened up with rain!

------------------------------------------------------------

As far as how "BIG" Big Bertha is:

She is 100 inches long
40 inches wide &
Her weight including me & our gear is a GRAND total of 1000lbs.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Final thought: I'd like to THANK Maria & Marcio Moreira for their love & support Plus thank you for your donation to the Posey Foundation to help saves LIVES!!! WELL - A lot of people are asking me what is next after this Posey Foundation 50 State "Dream Power Ride" Fundraiser & to quote a very good friend if mine - Marcio:
"If you are standing with one foot on the past & one foot on the future - you are pissing on the present"

Until next time my friends: God Bless - DJ & BIG Bertha
