DJ and Big Bertha are on the Alaska Highway headed toward Fairbanks! We have seen a couple of black bear, lots of deer, Elk, mountain goat, sheep and plenty of mosquitoes!! we have ridden through rain almost every day. It rained the last several nights and the temps are around 40 degrees. The Alaska Highway seems to have a lot of more gravel on it this time and the mud is very very slippery. I was coasting along, no throttle, no braking on Big Bertha and we were sliding uncontrollably!!

Today, I'd like to give thanks to the kinds folks at Moab Campark, Gary and Jackie Anders, Gal and Cal Mosher, Pat at the Bucking Horse River Camp... Big Bertha and I appreciate your love, support and gracious hospitality and there's more good news - a few donations are being given, which is the true purpose of our mission, to raise money to help save lives and make a difference!! Again thank you and God Bless you all!!!

Before riding up the Alaska Highway for the 2nd time, August 7, 2006, I wrote and put my last words on my website. Steve Roe, my dear who passed away last year, read my words and said, "God damn it, DJ, you made me cry." That's my Steve, never one to pull any punches.
I told him I didn't write the words to be morbid. We aren't guaranteed another moment and I wanted to let those I love, know that I do encase I don't return home!

To my friends:

For the 3rd time, on August 2, 2009, I'm camping and riding back up the road the locals on the Alaska Highway call, "HELL!" one of the most dangerous roads in the world! There lies in wait for Big Bertha and me, the largest population of Grizzly Bears in North America and every other large predator imaginable. But for some reason this awe inspiring extremely treacherous final frontier calls to me. Having said that ... please remember me a s spitfire and a fighter, someone who wasn't afraid of grabbing the world by the balls and pulling every bit of living out of it possible. Remember me as someone who wasn't afraid of speaking her mind although it may not be PC. Remember me as a Warrior, willing to lay her life on the line but willing to do everything within her power to survive! Remember me as a passionate person, one who took chances and when I leave this world, I have no regrets! Remember me as a soldier, who is willing to die for what she believes in, at all costs, if necessary!

To my loved one, please don't mourn my passing but CELEBRATE the life I've led. Every time the wind blows and you feel the warm sun on your face, it will be me filling you with my Warrior spirit! I love you all!!

I live my life to the fullest and try my best to make a difference!! Today... something wonderful happened to me!! My son/fighter Jerome posted a sign in Jacksons about the $3000.00 DJ and Big Bertha need for our Alaska Fundraising Ride!! Immediately the fighters/my new family stepped up to the plate to begin to make our journey possible!! They told me, no worries, you are going to make that ride, we will make sure of it!! Oh how I believe them... I will keep you posted on what they have planned.

In the meanwhile, I will put the final touches on my 1st Annual Alaska "Ride for Life" Fundraiser to raise money for heart disease and pediatric cancer, Sunday, August 2, 2009 departure - fundraiser/celebration kick-off event!! It should be a blast!!!

It also happened to be on my husband Mark's 48th birthday!!! Now in only two short weeks we are preparing for Jerome's title fight, August 1, 2009, the day before I leave on my 1st Annual Alaska "Ride for Life" Fundraising Ride. What a way to kick-off my journey!!! As I have said on numerous occasions - my life is never dull!!!

In 2 WEEKS, I will head out on Big Bertha on our 1st Annual Alaska Highway "Ride for Life" Fundraising ride to raise money for heart disease and pediatric cancer. My life is never without excitement!! But sometimes the excitement is a wee bit stressful. I have FAITH - it will happen... I will raise the $3000.00 + $1000.00 in case of an emergency funds, it will take to complete my life saving journey but until now I have only raised $500.00 of it!! Thank you to my wonderful husband, Mark. Besides putting the final touches on my journey, I continue to live my life to help others. I have posted a few more of the MMA Cage Fighters at Jackson's MMA that I am helping to become champions!!

Yet he seemed to be embarrassed when I compare him to the Michael Jordon of MMA. Despite his extraordinary talent he is humble. This is another one of the many honorable traits I admire about this young yet seasoned warrior.

He has the "IT" factor ladies and gentlemen. So every time he fights, you must keep your eyes on him every single moment because you may miss something spectacular!!

DJ and Big Bertha's - 1st Annual Alaska Highway "Ride for Life " Fundraiser

In six weeks, Big Bertha and I will be hitting the road again to help save lives and make a difference! On August 2, 2009, the team of DJ and Big Bertha will set out to ride the Alcan Highway for the 5th and 6th time. Individuals, companies and corporations will donate their products, services and donate per mile for this 8000 mile journey. The money raised will go to heart disease and pediatric cancer.

Yesterday we received wonderful news!! Helmet House will supply survival gear for our journey. The list of fantastic items are, a Shoei Helmet, boots, gloves, jacket, pants, rain gear, bike cover and luggage! Thank you & God Bless you Helmet House!! Once again you are helping us make a difference!

Also to help raise money for my cause, I will take my trusty towel. After I beat my challengers in less than 15 minutes, with my Ultimate ECI Towel Training, they will each make a donation to our cause! As I ride through North America, I will film my ECI "Towel TAP" Challenge.

Ride for Kids & Big Bertha Turned 230,000 miles!!

On May 31, 2009, The Ride for Kids Fundraiser in Albuquerque, NM raise $89,000.00 for Pediatric cancer. I had the privilege of being asked to ride Danielle Begay on Big Bertha again this year!

Together, Big Bertha and I are still logging the miles. On May 31, 2009, I rolled 230,000 miles on my 1999 Honda Valkyrie Tourer, Big Bertha's odometer. Tomorrow her & I will ride from Albuquerque to the California border - oh about 1000 miles before we call it a day!!

Roberto has a black belt in Muay Thai from Chute Boxe Academy and black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has also worked a long time with athletes like Wanderlei Silva, Anderson Silva, Shogun and many more...

John is a very animated person not only to talk to but also to watch fight. When he is in the ring/cage it seems as if he has no fear. The crazy and wild stunts that he tries in his fights will always bring a crowd to their feet in awe and amazement, a sure way to become a fan favorite.

DJ watched as she cornered the fight. She witnessed up close and personal all the hard work she and Jerome put forth over the last 4 months!! Together they make quite a unique team!!

Jerome below - AFTER, November 29, 2008 - weight 172... 33 lb. weight loss in 25 days + he gained muscle, as you can see!!

Yes, she's training cage fighters. DJ's nutrition, strength and cardiovascular conditioning at it's best. Although her fighter Jerome "The Syn Jrome" Martinez was in the best condition of his life on November 29, 2008, he had to tap after being caught in an arm bar near the end of the first round. But before Jerome tapped he endured some of the most devastating blows to the head, recovered and slammed the other fighter to the mat. Jerome scored points with powerful punches, kicks and knee strikes! He also broke free from a rear naked choke that would have been lights out for most fighters. I am very proud of Jerome. He fought with heart and fire! He gave the other fighter a serious dose of the Radioactive Syn Jrome!

They traveled May 11 - 15, 2008 - 2300 miles, through New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. They camped out in Iowa, rode through wind, rain and chilly temps and the team managed to make it home safe, avoiding the devastating tornadoes.

DJ would like to thank the kind folks of the National Motorcycle Museum, Jeff and Mary for giving her the opportunity to display 100 pictures and her historic 50 State story in the museum for the world to see.

She would also like to thank Lynn Kahmeyer of the Evergreen Inn Motel and RV Park in Pratt, KS for helping her out with a room on Mother's Day evening and her last night on the road, May 14, 2008.

With all the good DJ experienced, she can not ignore the incident that happened outside of Wichita, KS.

While filling up Big Bertha's tank, DJ heard someone say, "Look it's a woman." Hearing this she turned only to see a car load of four African-American males. She continued filling Big Bertha's tank. The four males, not men, proceeded to scream like animals, used profanities and the "N" word among themselves. They showed no respect for themselves or to the woman they took it upon themselves to savagely disrespect. DJ looked them in the eye as they passed but she would not lower herself by responding to their rude unsolicited comments. It was a sad moment, one that made DJ ashamed. This was the stereotypical negative stereotype that she had worked her entire life not to become!

Most people think, when DJ says she has problems with some people while out on the road, that it's with white folks. To the contrary, on most occasions, she is treated worse by those within her own race.

Human race people, we all belong to the human race. Why can't we respect each other??!!!

DJ would like to end this blog on a positive note.

The generous and kind people she has met will ALWAYS out weigh the not so kind!!

Yes - DJ and Big Bertha were going to attend BNI, but their plan changed at the last moment. After a morning of one obstacle after another. DJ was running late. She went to the Marriott next door to the Courtyard Marriott instead. She jumped on Big Bertha and decided that if for some reason she couldn't find the right location, she'd head to her next appointment early. Lo and behold there was the Courtyard. After entering the building, someone sent her to the Pecos room. She stuck her head in and asked if that was the BNI Networking Group? They said, "No, but we are a networking group." DJ told them if she couldn't find the BNI group she would be back. Sure enough the BNI meeting was full. She took her $20.00 back and went back to the Pecos room. The group was so happy, they applauded as she walked in. DJ said, "I'm back. There was no room at the inn, so to speak." The group DJ was invited to was the Albuquerque Business Builders. It was like no group DJ had ever experienced. It was a great group of people who genuinely cares about helping their fellow member's businesses grow and succeed. What started out with a morning full of adversity, made a complete 360 degree turn to Victory!

Please remember, "One of the best gifts you can give to another human being is your time. And there is no such thing as a coincidence."

There is quite a bit more bruising now - this PIC was taken Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006.

I have range of motion in my ankle down & up - but side to side is very limited. Big Bertha layed her very large motor on the inside part of my left foot between the ankle & toes - right where all the many bones are. Good thing I have taken good care of my right foot that was crushed by a car just shy of eight years ago - 11/24/98................

We are on the mend...................

I think I made the poor tow truck driver a little nervous. When he saw the size of Big Bertha he called for assistance - but no other drivers were available. He promised me that he had never lost a bike yet & we sure didn't want his first one to be MY BIG BERTHA!!! I watched him very closely, filmed & photographed his every move & I must say, GREAT job - dude!
Thank you once again to Honda Roadside Service & to the driver of Blair's Towing - well done, ya'll!

I had to watch my friend once again leave without me, but it's for the best. I am working on getting my foot roadworthy & it her time too.

We are one step closer to getting back to Albuquerque!!

Its not over yet!

DJ had a little mishap yesterday, she was pulling up a extremely steep driveway when Big Bertha slipped into neutral and began to roll backwards. Before she could react Big Bertha rolled into a parked truck and then fell on DJ's left foot. Her foot is not broken, but it is sprained pretty good. As for Big Bertha her handlebars are bent a little and the left mirror was torn off, but otherwise she seems okay. DJ spent the day working on her foot and is taking things day by day. All I can say is that I am glad it didn't turn out worse, because it certainly could have! Thank God she was wearing the proper boots, they no doubt protected her foot from further damage. The lastest on my stay in Hawaii - there are 3 very cute cats that are living here. I found out they have fleas!! I spent another night - one step from freaking OUT - not just washing my hair BUT scrubbing my head almost raw!!!!!

Bugs have not only bitten me, they have decided to take up residence in my kinky HAIRRRR!!!
I was camping in the HOT HUMID weather in the southern part of the US this summer - I resorted to shaving my head!! I was waking up with bugs running in my hair, across my scalp!!!
This is the most uncomfortable feeling in the WORLD!!! I don't want to shave my head AGAIN - so I will be putting a mild relaxer on it - it's really getting bad people - I am having problems sleeping - I am in a contant state of (WHAT THE HELL - WHAT THE....... *^@">*........ IS CRAWLING ON ME NOW - MODE??????!!!!!!!)

Day 139.....................

While going through all my receipts from Canada - I found out something very interesting today............. When I spent time up there getting to & from Alaska, I used either Canadian funds or my debit card. Since conversion rates vary minute to minute - I thought this would be the best way to handle it!! Was I wrong...........every time I used the debit card - a small conversion fee was attached!!! Small fees add up - ouch!!

Sometimes I think having 4 legs & fur is not such a bad thing!
Another lesson learned, another wrinkle on the old brain..........after completing this journey my brain is going to look like a California raisin......................:)

I spent the last hour on the phone with a company that will remain nameless, checking on an order I placed last week. To say the least - the order was "messed up once again". I did finally speak to a manager, a very nice young man that took a bit of my frustration very well I might add. The dilema should be resolved in a couple of days - please stay tuned.

Are companies making so much money that customers are not valued anymore? The old saying "The customer is always right" in most cases has become: press 1 for this, press 2 for that - please hold for the next person with an attitude...........
Good products + Good service = happy customers & referals "priceless"

Thank goodness for the companies & people that have & that are helping the Posey Foundation - their customer service & service is the BEST!!!

FYI: Mark is back at home in Albuquerque, NM - while he was in Hawaii he touched the waters of the Pacific Ocean, a memory he will savor for the rest of his life!

Well - since the night life here doesn't really get started until Mid-night, which is 4:00A.M. Mountain Standard time........guess what dancing will have to wait!

FYI - I was approached by a gentleman Sept. 16, 2006 the day I completed my 25,000/200,000 mile day. He made a comment to me: "how did you managed to calculate your miles to the day?" I responded: "it wasn't easy, I used maps.........I calculated & recalculated dozens of times to make it happen!" He had never heard of a woman that could read a map & said that there had to be a man somewhere mapping it for me...............
This message is for HIM & the rest of the folks that think a WOMAN can't read maps, ride an 800lb. motorcylce through ALL 50 states, SOLO & hang with grizzlies.....................

You have now met TWO female warriors that......Dream it, See it & CAN achieve it!!! - DJ & Big Bertha!!

When you think things can't get any better - it does!! I am sending this blog to you before my son & I go to the airport to pick up my husband "Mark". A very special angel donated a round trip ticket to get my other half to Hawaii. Thank you Jan - what a perfect way to celebrate the completion of this history making 50 State "Dream Power Ride" & the graduation of my son who is getting his crimnal justice degree. OH, by the way the PIC you saw of us with Big Bertha - this is the first time we have been together in almost 2 years. Can you believe it he's my 30 year old Navy Man!!!

Wednesday - September 13, 2006 - the team of DJ & Big Bertha will be reunited once again!! On this day History will be made..........
After having several of our sources check it out - DJ will be the first person to ride "1" motorcycle through ALL 50 States & Big Bertha will THAT special machine!!!
Still on track - by Saturday, September 16, 2006 - DJ & Big Bertha will not only have ridden the 50, ridden over 25,000 miles through hell & back on this life saving - life changing journey but my motorcycle "Big Bertha" a 1999 Honda Valkyrie Tourer will turn over 200,000 miles on the island of Honolulu, Hawaii.

If you have been following the DJ & Big Bertha 25,000 mile - 50 State "Dream Power Ride" you'll know that I have been taking PICS including DJ, Big Bertha & each state sign - Hawaii has no state sign. I've been told - when you are here, you know you are in Hawaii - no sign needed. I'll just have to use some creativity on this one.

I am awaiting the arrival of my riding partner/motorcycle - Big Bertha. The Jean Anne - the awesome boat that is moving Big B. across the Pacific, will be arriving at Midnight. The Pasha Group is taking very good care of us both & we'd like to thank them for their support!! I'm attaching a few Photos - enjoy!!

DJ has arrived safely in Hawaii. She has lots of stories and pictures to share with everyone. Starting tomorrow she will be able to update us on her amazing adventure, and let us know what she and Big Bertha have planned for their stay on the island. Big Bertha is on her way!

DJ loaded Big Bertha on a ship bound for Hawaii today. She would like to thank Censi Bryon Schnell and his wonderful family for their hospitality, and for allowing DJ to stay at the No Limits facility. Bon Voyage, Big Bertha!

Well tomorrow is the day! DJ will bring the big girl to a ship docked in San Diego in the morning. Once Big Bertha is safely on board, the ship will set sail for Hawaii. DJ will stay in the San Diego area until Saturday, at which time she will catch a flight to Honolulu. Big Bertha is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu on the 12th. It's hard to believe but the finish line is in sight. DJ has figured her miles so precisely that she will complete the 25,000 miles she planned to cover for this trip on the island. This will also bring the total miles on Big Bertha to 200,000. DJ is quick to remind me that the trip isn't over until the kickstand is down in your driveway, but I can't help but marvel at her accomplishments thus far. Along the way DJ has given many impromptu Dream Power Lectures to young and old alike. Spreading the message that anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Her passion to help raise awareness for the Posey Foundations mission to save lives is what keeps her going. Prepping Big B for the trip across the sea!

DJ has begun the final preparations on Big Bertha for her trip across the Pacific Ocean. Deciding what gear to take and what will be left here on the mainland, along with giving the big girl a good going over was the order of the day. When Big Bertha is loaded onto the ship Tuesday, it will be the first time her and DJ have been apart since the beginning of this remarkable journey in May. To some motorcycles are just another machine, to others such as DJ motorcycles are an extension of ones soul. We purchased Big Bertha new in 1999, and since that time she has faithfully carried DJ for almost 200,000 miles traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. From California to Nova Scotia, from Key West to Alaska and everywhere between they have traveled the highways and byways together searching for answers and wondering what adventure lies around the next bend. I'll never forget the day we first picked Big Bertha up. The bike shop had her serviced and ready to go when we pulled up. DJ put on her gear, as a crowd began to gather. Everyone stared in awe at this magnificent machine, with its huge engine and chrome glistening in the late afternoon sun. One of the men in the crowd asked her if she was scared about riding such a huge bike, DJ just shrugged her shoulders and said no. She swung her leg over the seat, started the engine pulled a tight U turn and was gone. It was truly a wonder to behold. From the beginning they were a perfect match. People often ask me if I'm bothered by how much time DJ spends riding Big Bertha. The answer is a resounding no! Of course I miss her when she's away, but since we purchased Big Bertha there has been a wonderful transformation in my wife. DJ has always been free spirited and outgoing, but when she teamed up with Big Bertha, one could not help but noticed a sense of peace and tranquility about her. The time spent riding Big Bertha has given DJ a chance to reflect on life, to figure out what's truly important and what goals she would like to accomplish. Whenever she comes home from a trip she is rejuvenated, full of energy and new ideas. I feel that riding Big Bertha has helped make DJ a better person.
